Fair Trade provides opportunities for disadvantaged producers

Since it’s #FairTradeFriday again, here’s this week’s tidbit.

There are many reasons why we chose to love and support Fair Trade, as it stands against discrimination, respects the environment, upholds children’s rights, and many more.

However, most importantly, we support Fair Trade because it gives the opportunity to improve the quality of lives of disadvantaged producers who were more vulnerable against exploitation and trading system which promotes inequality. In fact, Ten Thousand Villages, one of CCAP’s longtime trading partner, was started when they began trading with poor communities from Puerto Rico.

This is why the first principle of Fair Trade is “Opportunities for Disadvantaged Producers” since it encompasses its primary purpose.
