Lokalakalan 2018

Fair Trade NGO holds trade festival to celebrate Mothers

QUEZON CITY – Community Crafts Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CCAP), in partnership with U.P. Town Center, will hold a two-day trade festival entitled, Lokalakalan 2018: Kabuhayan, Kababaihan, Kalikasan, A Fair Trade and Social Enterprise Festival to Celebrate Women on May 12 and 13 at U.P. Town Center Activity Center C.  This is in celebration of the World Fair Trade Day on May 12 and Mother’s Day on May 13.

“CCAP remains committed to our mission of strengthening women’s contribution to our society particularly in relation to community-based enterprises,” says CCAP Executive Director Voltaire P. Alferez. ”These women, mostly mothers, are providers for their families and still continue to be caring wives and doting mothers; and, we want to honor them through the showcase of their products.”

The trade festival will feature locally-made handicrafts and food products from several Fair Trade and Social Enterprises in the country.

Local musicians and influencers are set to provide music and entertainment for the two-day affair including handicraft-making workshops by some of CCAP’s partner artisans.

Since its inception in 1973, CCAP has promoted Fair Trade to improve the quality of lives of handicraft artisans, especially the marginalized artisans, many of whom are women.

Fair Trade is a social movement to promote fairness in trading by ensuring that artisans are paid fairly and that their rights are respected.

“Aside from honoring women, this festival is in response to the growing call of GoLokal, an ethical lifestyle trend that seeks to ensure that consumption are sourced directly from the producers”. Mr. Alferez stated.  “We hope that everyone would come and check out the products and support these community-based enterprises”.
